Push-to-talk dictation for Windows

Your voice. Without the monthly bill.

Turn what you say into emails, notes and AI prompts in the apps you use every day. Recognize speech on your own PC, or with your own provider key.

Launching soon. One-time purchase, no subscription.

If you use a hosted provider, it bills you for what you use.

See it work

Hold a key. Say it. Let go.

The words land wherever your cursor is. Say “new line” or “question mark” and you get the break or the mark. Correct yourself with “actually”, “I mean” or “scratch that”, and Froge types the corrected version.

You say

“Summarize these notes as a table, I mean as a bulleted list. New line. Keep the dates and owners.”

AI assistant

Froge types

Summarize these notes as a bulleted list. Keep the dates and owners.

You say

“Hi Dana comma the review moved to Thursday at 5, actually 6 pm. New paragraph. Can you still make it question mark”

Reply: Design review

Froge types

Hi Dana, the review moved to Thursday at 6 pm. Can you still make it?

You say

“Offsite to-dos number one book the venue number two send the agenda number three order lunch.”

Notes

Froge types

Offsite to-dos 1. Book the venue 2. Send the agenda 3. Order lunch.

These are illustrations, not screenshots. The typed text follows the formatting and correction rules Froge applies after recognition; the recognizer’s own punctuation can vary. Froge doesn’t reword your sentences.

Two ways to run it

On your computer, or with your own provider.

On first start, Froge offers both: download a free on-device model, or add your own provider key. You can switch between them whenever you like.

On your computer

Free on-device models

Speech is recognized on your PC by Whisper small. For more speed, add Parakeet v3 (25 European languages). Nothing leaves your PC to transcribe.

Where your audio goes
Nowhere. Froge is built to keep it on your PC, and never saves it to disk.
Internet needed
Only for the one-time model download, which Froge asks you about first: about 570 MB, plus about 670 MB if you add Parakeet v3.
Who charges
No one. The models are free to use.

Your own provider

Deepgram, Groq or OpenAI · your own key

Connect your own account for fast hosted recognition. Your key is stored on your PC, sealed to your Windows account.

Where your audio goes
From your PC to the provider you chose, and not through us. Requests to Deepgram opt out of model training.
Internet needed
Yes, while you dictate.
Who charges
Your provider bills you for what you use. Froge adds nothing on top.

Built for how you work

A small tool that stays out of the way.

  • Works in the apps you already use

Text goes where your cursor is: email, chat, documents, the browser, AI tools. In terminals, password fields and admin windows, Froge shows the text for you to copy instead.

  • Hold a hotkey to talk

Hold Ctrl + Win, speak, let go. For longer thoughts, press Ctrl + Win + Space to go hands-free. You can change both in Settings.

  • Spoken formatting and corrections

Say “new line”, “comma” or “question mark” and get the break or the mark. Say “at 5, actually 6 pm” and Froge types “at 6 pm”.

  • A personal dictionary

Add the names, product terms and jargon you use. Whisper and hosted providers get them as a hint. Parakeet v3 doesn’t take hints.

  • Your language, your microphone

Pick from 46 languages in Settings, with your Windows language listed first, or let Froge detect it. Choose which microphone to use from the ones on your PC.

  • Parakeet v3 for speed

Parakeet v3 was about seven times faster than Whisper small on our test PC.

    One machine, one 6.6-second clip: 0.53 s against 3.73 s.

  • Your own key only when you want it

Hosted recognition is off until you add a key and switch it on. If your provider can’t be reached, Froge falls back to your on-device model, if you have one installed. Cloud cleanup works the same way: off until you switch it on with your own Groq key, and only the text is sent, never the audio.

Private by design

There’s no server of ours to trust.

Froge is an app on your PC, not a service. We never receive your audio, your text or your keys.

These points describe how Froge is built. Before launch they will be checked with a network capture of the app running. Once text is in another app, that app decides what happens to it. If you use a hosted provider, its own terms apply to what you send it.

  • No account

Nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to.

  • No telemetry

Froge has no usage reporting, and doesn’t send what you say anywhere you haven’t chosen. Crash details stay in a local file on your PC, and never include your words.

  • History off by default

Froge keeps no record of what you said unless you turn history on. Turn it off again and it stops with your next sentence.

  • Keys sealed to your Windows account

Your API key is encrypted with Windows’ own data protection. A copied key file won’t open for anyone else.

  • Hosted recognition and cleanup are off until you turn them on

Adding a key doesn’t switch either on, and each asks you first. Turning one off takes effect on your next sentence.

What you need

Questions

Do I need an API key?

No. Froge can recognize speech entirely on your PC with a free on-device model, downloaded once from inside the app. A key is only needed for a hosted provider.

Does my voice go to you?

No. There’s no Froge server. On your computer, audio stays on your PC. With a provider, it goes from your PC to the provider you chose.

Does it work offline?

Yes, once the on-device model is downloaded. On-device recognition doesn’t need an internet connection.

Which languages?

Whisper small recognizes many languages, and Settings lists 46 of them. Parakeet v3 covers 25 European languages; for any other language, Froge uses Whisper. So far we’ve tested Froge mostly in English.

Does it rewrite what I say?

No. Froge types what you said, with the punctuation, line breaks and corrections you asked for out loud. If you turn on optional cloud cleanup with your own Groq key, a hosted model tidies punctuation and removes filler sounds like “um”. It may not add, reorder or change your words; an answer that tries is thrown away and your words are typed as you said them.
